Survivor Support and Prevention (Past Program)
Not For Sale’s people work in Romania ran from the early 2000s until 2019, awareness campaigns, prevention camps, and direct survivor support in one of Europe’s most active trafficking source countries.
What We Found
Romania sits at a crossroads of human trafficking routes within Europe. Traffickers exploit poverty in rural communities to recruit young people, particularly women and girls, with false promises of legitimate work in Western Europe. Children in state care and unaccompanied youth are especially vulnerable, and trafficking for both sexual exploitation and forced labor is well-documented.
What We Built
Not For Sale Romania ran survivor support and prevention programmes reaching 5,220 people through awareness campaigns, prevention camps for children and young adults, and direct support for survivors. The programme wound down in 2019 as the local team transitioned operations to government-funded partners and civil society organisations.
