Farmhopping: Fair Supply Chains as Prevention
Not For Sale’s social innovation work in Bulgaria tackles trafficking at its root cause: economic desperation. Bulgaria is a significant source and transit country for trafficking within Europe, with rural poverty and Roma communities especially exposed. The answer is not just services, it is dignified livelihoods.
What We Built
Not For Sale co-founded Farmhopping in 2012 as a founding equity investor. Farmhopping is an organic farm-to-consumer platform connecting over 200 small organic farms directly with consumers, building supply chains rooted in transparency and creating dignified livelihoods in rural communities that would otherwise have few economic alternatives. A UK expansion has followed the success of the Bulgarian model.
Why This Matters
Communities that have transparent, fair economic participation are communities where traffickers have less leverage. Farmhopping is one demonstration of the Impact Stack principle: when you climb the value chain until communities at the bottom have real leverage and ownership, you change what trafficking can offer them.
