Free2Work: Supply Chain Transparency (Past Program)

Not For Sale’s social innovation work in El Salvador was an early test of the idea that changing how global supply chains work could be as powerful as responding to trafficking after the fact.

What We Built

El Salvador’s garment industry supplies global fashion brands and employs tens of thousands of workers, many of them women with few other economic options. Poor labor conditions and supply-chain opacity allow forced labor to persist out of sight of consumers. Not For Sale brought the Free2Work methodology to the apparel sector here, working with factories including TexOps and AppleTree to assess labor conditions, support worker rights, and help brands make more transparent sourcing decisions. The programme has concluded, but its supply-chain transparency methodology informed Not For Sale’s social innovation work that followed.
