About Not For Sale

ORIGIN STORY

A movement born from a
story too urgent to ignore.

In 2006, our co-founder David Batstone discovered that his favourite restaurant in San Francisco was trafficking young girls. He refused to look away.

He teamed up with Mark Wexler, and together they launched Not For Sale, an organisation dedicated to ending human trafficking and rebuilding communities vulnerable to exploitation.

What began as a response to one tragedy has since grown into a global movement, driven by the belief that no one is for sale.

From frontline reports to survivor-led projects, stay updated as they happen across our social channels. Our live feed offers a real-time window into the work being done every day to fight human trafficking, challenge ecocide, and build sustainable futures for all.

We combat the upstream causes of human trafficking, poverty, lack of opportunity, and environmental destruction, before they put people at risk. Instead of only responding after exploitation has taken place, we build social enterprises and invest in local communities so that individuals have stable livelihoods, education, and safe environments.

By strengthening community resilience and creating real alternatives, we stop trafficking before it begins. At the same time, we remain committed to supporting survivors, providing care, training, and pathways back to dignity and independence.

Ecocide

We prevent trafficking before it starts by tackling the vulnerabilities that make people targets, poverty, displacement, lack of education, and unsafe environments. Through long-term programs, we provide protection, education, and opportunity so that people can choose freedom over fear.

Poverty and lack of opportunity fuel exploitation. That’s why we build and support mission-driven businesses that create fair jobs, sustainable income, and community resilience. These enterprises aren’t just lifelines, they are engines of dignity and independence.

Environmental destruction and resource theft often force people into desperate situations that traffickers exploit. We work to protect ecosystems and empower communities to safeguard their land, forests, and rivers. By resisting ecocide, we break cycles of exploitation and displacement.
